Алессандро Сафина

Alessandro has been interested in music since the age of nine. His parents were ardent admirers of opera and from the very childhood they tried to instill this passion in their son. At the age of 17, he entered the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence. His application was accepted and he soon began performing the leading roles in the most famous operas on various stages in Europe. In 1989 he won first prize at the Cati Ricciarelli International Vocal Competition. The prize marked the beginning of Alessandro's brilliant career in the world of opera. Initially, he worked in the field of academic music, performed the main roles in the operas La Bohème, The Barber of Seville, Capuleti and Montagues, Love Drink, Rusalka, Eugene Onegin. He also took part in productions of the operettas "Sissy", "Rose-Marie", "Orpheus in Hell" and "The Merry Widow". Safina paid much attention to the religious and spiritual repertoire: he sang Gounod's Mass in the Basilica of Saint-Denis, Puccini's Mass di Gloria and Little Solemn Mass.

2001 was marked by Safina's first full-scale world tour. He gave concerts in the Netherlands (The Hague and Amsterdam), Italy, France, Belgium, Great Britain (where the tenor takes part in the Royal Variety Performance concert and sings for Queen Elizabeth II along with other world celebrities), Brazil (Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro), USA (concert at New York Radio City Hall), Canada and Korea.

In the same 2001, the singer took part in the recording of the soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann's musical "Moulin Rouge!", Performing Elton John's song "Your Song" in a duet with actor Evan McGregor. In September of the same year, he gave a concert at the famous antique amphitheater in Taormina. The concert "Only You Live in Italy" was subsequently shown on the American television channel "PBS" as part of the concert series "Great Performances" and released on DVD.

The idol of Alessandro Safina is Enrico Caruso. However, in addition to classical music, the singer is interested in pop and rock music. Safina's musical passions include U2, Genesis, Depeche Mode and The Clash. He loves modern opera less than classical.

In addition to her singing career, Safina starred in films. He played himself in the TV series The Clone and played the role of the artist Mario Cavaradossi in the free adaptation of Giacomo Puccini's opera Tosca, Tosca e altre due.
